Beautiful Smiles!
Went Ren Ci Hospital with mom this mornin - mom do volunteer work there every sunday.Spent 8 tiring but meaningful hours there...
Alot of volunteers came down today... =) Nice aunties n uncles...
There is a 'function room' which is air-conditioned (i tink tt's the only part of the hospital tt has air-con). The mornin started w volunteers goin into the different wards and push the patients (push cos they are all on wheel-chairs) to the 'function room'. And I realised today tt it's realli difficult to push the wheelchair up-slope even if it's only a 45kg granny on it. There was about 50 patients today. Mom said usu there's fewer. Patients are only allowed to join us if they are 'well enuf'. So meanin more patients are feelin better today! =D But the function room is quite small; the wheelchairs have to be arranged very close to each other if not there's realli no room for all...
The next hour was buddhist chanting led by some volunteers. Most of the patients recite the name 'Namo Ah Mi Tuo Fo' or 'Namo Guan Shi Yin Pusa' cos they cant read.
After the chanting, it's the 'happy hour' for the patients! Haha~ I was quite surprised when loud music from the karaoke system suddenly lifted the serious n solemn atmosphere in the room. My mom n another volunteer grab a microphone each n started singin... There were smiles immediately on the patients' faces... The rest of the volunteers quickly move to the front n do (funny) hand exercises so tt the patients will follow and improve their blood circulation... Lol! It's realli funny... I laughed so hard... But I joined in anyway... Most of the patients are above 60 years old and seldom exercise so they tot of these to cheer them up yet 'bluff' them into exercising at the same time... =) I tink it's brilliant!
Some just clap along; others follow whatever funny movements the volunteers are doin... It's so fun! Hee! Then after bout 15 mins, they get tired n everyone just clapped along. All except one super-enthu 'beibei'... He ultra happy... Keep imitatin the volunteers. Then my cheeky mom did realli weird movements and made the 'beibei' follow...
3 other 'beibeis' left a great impression in me. There's this one who is rather noisy and keep insistin on us push a 'granny' wheelchair to the space beside him... Lol! He claimed that she's his girlfriend!!! Oh man!!! But when my mom ask the 'granny' if she wans, she say 'i dun even know him.' Her expression so funny lor... Like forced to sit beside him lidat... Then my mom tell the 'beibei' not to touch the 'granny' legs. Initially I tot my mom is askin him not to molest her... Only later then I realise tt it's bcos she just had her legs amputated last week. So it still hurts alot now...
Another 'beibei' head was really dented... It is probably due to a car accident ba... But seriously I nv seen a head so dented in b4... It's realli saddening... Realli...
The last 'beibei' can realli sing!!! REALLY SING SUPERBLY WELL!!! Everyone was super impressed!!! He can 'dou3-ying1'!!! He was the star singer for tt ktv session... It was realli good! I dunno how else to describe... Oh ya... One 'granny' actualli wanted to stay behind to continue listenin to his singing instead of gg for her lunch... Lol~ Until the staff there came running for the two of them... Hee! She got the 'I'm caught!' face when the staff calls out to her... So ke ai!!!
Anyway, I hope to go there help out again when I'm free... There's just so little tt I can do to help them... So mayb the least would be to brighten up their sunday afternoons with a little dancing, singing, and clapping... =)
Will be helpin out at Ren Ci Charity Show as usherer oso... But Joyce ah... I was told tt I cant take foto of the artistes... Lol! But if he's there (which I dun tink so), I'll 'see' for u... =P They so secretive la... Like wat hotel, wat time the artistes check in, oso repeated 3 times that we cant reveal... Like I will...
Back to my never-endin school work now... Ta-da~
